October was both Mental Health Month and Stress Less Month at the University of Newcastle. NUSA, NUPSA and Student Central worked together to hold events on the Callaghan Campus that aimed to decrease stress in the lead up to exams.
In the NUSA Building, staff placed a box that allowed students to anonymously get things off their chest that they may not necessarily be able to say out loud. Above the box was a sign that read ‘What worries you?’
The ‘confessions’ were collected and put on display for everybody to read. They varied in tone from tongue-in-cheek, to frightened, to raunchy, to depressed, to vindicated and to content. See below a selection of some of the confessions that were on display in the NUSA Building throughout October.
If you are experiencing depression or other mental hardship and you are having trouble managing, we urge you to seek help from the University of Newcastle Counselling Service. Alternatively, you can contact Lifeline (13 11 14), headspace or Beyondblue.
